The venerable Browning M2 is one of the weapons Air Force Combat Arms Instructors can qualify on They also do maintenance, but first and foremost they are teachers. Air Force Combat Arms Instructors’ primary role is right there in the title: instructor.
COMBAT ARMS MOS HOW TO
The Army does have small arms maintainers as a career field, but their primary role is to fix guns, not teach people how to shoot them. They’re drawn from other career fields, often the infantry, and used in that role to train people how to shoot. The Army and Marine Corps firearms instructors don’t have “firearms instructor” as their MOS. Wait, What? Air Force Firearms Instructors?
COMBAT ARMS MOS FULL
In fact, the Air Force is the only branch of the service that has Small Arms Instructor as a full time, primary MOS/AFSC. In the Air Force, if someone is Combat Arms, what that means is that they’re a Combat Arms Instructor, and their primary job is to train people on, and maintain the Air Force’s small arms systems. That’s why their E5 is a Staff Sergeant, but in the Army and Marines a Staff Sergeant is an E6.īack to the point. AFSC is the Air Force word for MOS, because if there’s one thing the Air Force loves, it’s being different.
COMBAT ARMS MOS CODE
Not so in the Air Force where the term Combat Arms refers to a specific Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC). Regardless, in the Army and the Marines, combat arms means combat troops. Of course, when most people think of that term, they think infantry. The very broad definition includes infantry, artillery, tankers, etc. In the Army and Marine Corps, the term “combat arms” refers to Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) whose primary mission is to destroy the enemy. DA PAM 611-21 chapter 9 mandates a "within CMF percentage of paygrade to paygrade" of less than one percent for each SGM specific CMF, but here's simple numbers: FMSweb ( ) lists 600 (!) Who is the senior raters for every BSB (BN) and SB (BDE) CSM? A commanding officer in Maneuvers, Fires, and Effects (MFE). If you're a 36, 42, 88, 89, 91, or 94 (sustainment) welcome to the BSB/CSSB/TRADOC equivalent. The slots for BN and BDE are based on your CMF.
Very few CMFs have multiple 6O MOS fields. However, they're staffed by DA boards that pick people based on their CMF. Look at the CSM positions, they're all 00Z, right? That means they're MOS immaterial.
